Full-Duplex Radios for Local Access (DUPLO)
Within the ICD group, I perform research for the European project "Full-Duplex Radios for Local Access" (DUPLO). This project aims at developing new technology and system solutions for future generations of mobile data networks by introducing in-band full-duplex radio: transmission and reception occur simultaneously at the same frequency. This technique, if applied successfully, can double the spectral efficiency of wireless communications, with additional througput, latency and security benefits expected in the higher network layers.
The main issue to overcome in full-duplex wireless is Self-Interference (SI), or the transmit signal of a node leaking strongly into its own receiver. Self-interference cancelling (SIC) mechanisms will be implemented on various levels: antenna, RF, baseband and digital. My task is to investigate SIC mechanisms that can be applied in an integrated radio front-end.
